As human beings, the quality of our earliest relationships has a profound impact on our mental health throughout life. When our strivings for autonomy are supported, our bids for emotional support met with acceptance, and when we are reliably held accountable for our mistakes with kindness, we develop into emotionally healthy people capable of intimate connections. Conversely, when our earliest relationships do not possess these qualities, we grow up fearing vulnerability with others, because at our core we conflict with and feel insecure about aspects of ourselves. As a psychologist and as a human being, I understand the centrality of attuned, engaged, and responsive relationships for sound mental health, regardless of our stage of development. Therefore, a relational thread runs throughout all of my service offerings.
